About Pleasant Hill
In February of 1851 twenty-nine people came together to worship for the first time at what would eventually become Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Since that time, Pleasant Hill has been serving the Shelby, Grover, Patterson Springs, and King’s Mountain communities offering opportunities to grow in a relationship with God and find ways to serve in meaningful ways both locally and throughout the world. In everything we do: worship, fellowship, service, and discipleship; we seek to love God with all we have and love our world as we love ourselves (Matt. 22:36-40). For over 160 years folks have been gathering at Pleasant Hill to hear the stories of God’s reconciling work in the world and find ways they fit in. Come see us sometime, we’d love the chance to tell you a little bit about our God and show you why folks have been coming for “Hope on the Hill” since 1851.
When Is Worship and What Can I expect?
Worship begins at 11 am Sunday Mornings. The goal of our worship service is connect all participants to the story of God’s making all things new through Jesus Christ and encourage and equip us to be part of that work. We include many elements in our work towards that goal:
- Music that ranges from traditional hymns to contemporary praise songs and choruses.
- Scripture read both by individuals and as a congregation.
- Prayer, both for our immediate community and for our world.
- Traditions of both Baptist and greater Christian life including emphasis on the Christian Year and celebration of Communion and Baptism.
- Sermons that remind us of the stories of what God has done in the past, connect us to what God is doing and can do in the present, and call us to look forward to what God will do in the future.

What should I wear?
Whatever is comfortable for you! You’ll see people in suits and ties right beside others in jeans and t-shirts. Our focus is on the God we’re there to worship, not on the clothes we wear while worshiping.
Where should I park and where do I go when I Arrive?
Parking lots are located on either side of the church building. For easiest handicapped access park in the lot on the Shelby side of the building (right as you face the church). Make your way to the front doors of the church and greeters will be there to help you find your way.
What Do You Offer for Youth and Children?
At PHBC we’re dedicated to offering opportunity for both growth and ministry to our children and students through Sunday School classes, active participation in Worship, weekly Bible Studies and Missions Education/Opportunities, and camps, retreats, and mission trips. For more specific information visit the Youth and Children pages elsewhere on the website. On Sunday mornings we offer (but don’t require) nursery for children 2 and under and Children’s Church for ages 3-5.
Who Are You Affiliated With?
We are affiliated with both the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) and participate with these organizations through partnerships and giving at the local, state, and national and international level.
